Introduction Open Rendering Environment (ORE) captures the power of BOINC in a unique way. Instead of using the power of shared computing for the advancement of science, ORE uses it to advance the arts. Specifically, ORE allows 3D animators and artists to add some digital muscle to their rendering. Animation and 3D rendering (the act of creating a 3D image) are very time consuming processes that typically require extremely powerful computers to process efficiently. Larger animation firms like Pixar get around this problem with powerhouse behemoth computers, but smaller, independent artists don't necessarily have those. So, ORE provides them with a way to spread out the intense burden of rendering, allowing them to do renders that would normally take several months in just a matter of days. This huge boost in productivity means that more people can break into the realm of modern animated cinema.
Status
Currently still under testing and refinement. Participation in the project (as an artist) is on an invitation basis for the time being.
