Any news on possibly adding a feature to allow users to mark one or more of their computers as INACTIVE ??

This would be such a useful feature.

Thanks,
Bob

Re: HOW TO delete computers from GridRepublic list  Help  Gridrepublic.org 05/20/09 01:40 pm
Hi,

Yes, the ability to "hide" inactive computers would be my number 1 feature request. It makes it difficult to manage otherwise which is the reason I like GridRepublic in the first place....

HOW TO delete computers from GridRepublic list  Help  Gridrepublic.org 05/06/09 01:38 am

Hello,

I have a bunch of computers that GridRepublic is managing. Three of them have been decomissioned. I would like to remove them from the "My Computers" tab/list of computers I have on GridRepublic. How do I do this when the BOINC host has already been shutdown??

Re: GridRepublic not showing updated stats?  Help  Gridrepublic.org 12/16/08 05:59 pm

I don't seem to be having a problem loging out anymore. Not sure about Refresh as I need to wait with an open session for a while to try that.

Login/Logout seems to work with both IE 7.0 and Firefox 3.0.4. Did you make some code changes to fix this?

Thanks,
Bob

As for the logout problem -- are any of the other people who are having stats problems (Michael, bferrari) also having the same logout problem? (I cannot reproduce it).

Yes, I am also having the same logout problem, isn't that funny.

My browser is Firefox 3.0.4 Windows Vista

Ok, I just logged in on another Windows XP machine using IE 7.0 browser, I had UPDATED STATS!!  Then, I refreshed my Firefox browser on my original workstation where I was having all the problems, and suddenly my stats are updated there too!!!!

Caching issue, but at the server level?? This is strange.

Re: Advocacy on Facebook  Advocacy  Gridrepublic.org 12/15/08 12:24 pm

Hi,

I run a "wildly successful" ("wildly" for a town of 30,000 people Wink ), citizen activist group out of Tewksbury, MA. using a freely available bulletin board software.

To get people to show up at an event, you really need to build "virtual interest" first. Via, interesting web forums and mentions in the local newspapers and tv shows. That's how our website got popular. http://www.TewksburyIssues.org

It usually takes a cruddy project built in someone's backyard before they will get interested enough in actually coming out of their homes into a place. But there is nothing worse than setting up a get together and one person shows up. You really need to build a critical mass before you start having get togethers.

How? Guest speakers, local politicians who have interest in what you are doing, mentions in school, local, and even national newspapers, etc. Get friendly with the reporters from local newspapers by going to city or town meetings where these reporters show up. Get friendly and start talking eventually about GridRepublic. You will be amazed at how facinated people will be when you talk about world-wide computing grids, no really. The local reporters are always looking for a different story, GR seems to be just the ticket.

Building "critical mass" takes a while, took me at least two years to get to that level, but my world consists of 30,000 people, your world is global so should take significantly less time.

Get the GridRepublic website hooked up with "Diggit", "Reddit" and all the other tools out there that will get your website's name out there.

You can start with this a tool that connects you to all the social mining websites out there, though I haven't used it yet, a friend who develops popular websites told me about it:

Re: Not getting updated stats from BOINC  Help  Gridrepublic.org 12/15/08 03:19 am

What I do see happening is that the "My Computers" link of the project pages show a value for one of my Windows computers, for example, called RYE:

SETI (from http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/hosts_users.php?userid=xxxx)

displays a value of 1,252 for "total credits"

Einstein (from http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/hosts_user.php?userid=xxxx).

displays a value of 223 for "total credits"

Add these two values together: 1252 + 223 = 1475 credits for the Windows server called "RYE".

Yet in GR, on the "My Computers" tab, the value that is show is 461.34 which is an old value from at least two days ago.

Eventually the number will get refreshed but then it will take two days for the value to change again in GR, despite the fact that the project pages are far ahead.

There is some lag in data collection, it seems.

On GR:

Re: Not getting updated stats from BOINC  Help  Gridrepublic.org 12/15/08 03:02 am

Q: After you login to GR, are your points as reported on under "my projects" the same as under "my computers"?

A: Yes, the points are the same number. I even added up all the computers on the "My Computers" tab in GR to make sure the "Total Credits" number was accurate.

Q: Is the list of computers under "my computers" accurate, or are there any "duplicate" listings?

A: I don't have any duplicate listings.

Q: Do you have computers attached to the projects which are not attached to GR?

A: I don't believe I have any computers in this situation.

Would it help if I emailed you my account information and you could look around yourself ?  I wouldn't mind, especially if it will make this easier for you to debug.

Thanks, Bob

Re: Not getting updated stats from BOINC  Help  Gridrepublic.org 12/13/08 04:11 pm

Under the section called "Computing and Credit"

1) SETI shows:   "Total credit 163,626"

2) Einstein shows:  "Total credit 30,493"

3) Add them up:    194119

4) GR shows:  "Total points: 172339.40"

3 and 4 do not match

But really wierd, on each of the project pages for SETI and Einstein there is a small section at the bottom called: "Projects in which you are participating"

Under this section there are different values that what I show above.

Also, is there a way to move this whole message thread to the "Help" forum where it belongs.

This is the same issue I am having...although more eloquently written than my original Smiley...

Re: Not getting updated stats from BOINC  Help  Gridrepublic.org 12/11/08 10:27 pm

I need to edit my last post.

There doesn't seem to be any SETI/Einstein correlation. I have six hosts that are ARE posting data to BOINC, but NOT to GR. The six hosts show "0" on GR,yet have real data on BOINC.

Re: Not getting updated stats from BOINC  Help  Gridrepublic.org 12/11/08 10:06 pm

In GR on this page: http://www.gridrepublic.com/index.php, click on the "My Computers" tab. There is a list of my computers. Six of them are reporting "0". They should not be reporting "0"

As a comparison, if I go onto the BOINC agent, click on one of my two projects (SETI, or Einstein), then click on the "Your Computers" button...

For those six hosts in particular, SETI will show some values, Einstein is "0".

It looks like GR is displaying results for SETI and not Einstein as well (combined).

Re: Not getting updated stats from BOINC  Help  Gridrepublic.org 12/11/08 12:25 pm

I added six more boxes to my "server farm". They all have been running BOINC (SETI/EINSTEIN) for two days now.

The new servers show up in my "Server List", but they are all reporting zero still. All my other existing servers also are reporting old data from two days ago.

I know that in another day, GR will show more up-to-date data, but it is never accurate for me anyway.

Hi,

Well the fact that you say there could be up to a 48 hour lag, may explain it....

Thank you,

bob
