Re: GR spawning minirosetta windows on desktop  Help  Gridrepublic.org 12/02/12 11:50 pm

Sorry for delay in a reply.

These popups were due to a bug that slipped through the Rosetta@home project processes. New processes have been put in place by their project to hopefully prevent this happening in the future.

These should clear out normally or can be manually aborted if they appear. Not the ideal situation, but GridRepublic does not run the individual projects.

More information about this issue can be read on the Rosetta page:http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/forum_thread.php?id=6120for this specific issues spec.

Re: Computer not showing in the list.(boinccmd)  Help  Gridrepublic.org 11/01/12 06:23 am

Glad to hear things are working now.

As for GR vs BOINC installed program: GR is a branded version of BOINC, but runs a few versions behind the latest for stability and our limited resources to customize the installer. There is some customizataion going into the GR installer to help streamline the install and account link process.

BOINC is stable, but does have its rough edges. The largest is the communicatation between the manager and client which can cause a slight delay when opening the program.

Glad things are working now. Smiley

Re: Preference sets not working (BOINC 7.0.28 and 7.0.31)  Help  Gridrepublic.org 11/01/12 05:29 am

Hi Daniel,

Sorry I missed this post earlier. Can you confirm for me that the comptuers have different sets applied. Meaning when you go to comptuers and select a computer the dropd down lists lists something other than default which you have created.

Also then verify for me that when you go to that profiles settings the settings you select are saved upon your return to the custom profile value.

Which projects are you attached to and have you made any changes to preferences on those sites between changing the settings on GridRepublic?

Re: Computer not showing in the list.(boinccmd)  Help  Gridrepublic.org 11/01/12 05:13 am

Hi Hartleigh, Sorry I this was not reponded to sooner.

There can be a delay between creating your account, attaching a computer, and the computer showing up on the website. Are you seeing the computers there now?

Please verify that the installs are attached by checking the Advanced Menu's tools drop down and it shoudl have a syncronise with GridRepublic as an option. You don't see any computers under the Home > My Computers tab ?!?

What projects have you selected? Crashes can occur if you are participating in GPU projects and have unstable drivers. We always suggest checking to make sure you have your computer updated and patched. I've run Windows 7 64 bit with the latest BOINC with no issues but for gpu here and there. Do you notice a pattern of when the crashes occur or look under the reliability history to see what the technical details are for the crashes to see if it is BOINC causing the issue and not a virus or other program.

Re: All Tasks go into Suspend Status after 1 minute of Idle time... HELP  Help  Gridrepublic.org 09/13/12 01:53 pm

Hi Norm,

The local preferences will take precident over web preferences. If would be best to clear the local prefs and manage through GridRepublic's interface.

It is strange to hear that you cannot run durring idle since that is the default run state of GridRepublic's software. How are you determing that the software does not run while idle?

Are you Mac or PC? Either should run while idle by default. It is while the computer in use that you should have to make sure the "while computer is in use" is checked in preferences (web or locla) for it to run.

The every day between hours of 00:00 and 00:00 or any other setting when the numberls match means GridRepublic should run while idle any time of the day.

If the computer is a laptop GR will not run unless the computer is plugged in or the "while computer is on batteries" is checkedin preferences.

Setting the "run always" should ignore preferences and run no matter what... so if that is not working, that is strange.

I can help more once I know more about the above situations.

Re: Computer not showing in the list.(boinccmd)  Help  Gridrepublic.org 08/21/12 12:27 pm

I take it that BAM! works for you and you are able to contribute to the projects who are the real winners here anyway.BAM! is a good product and if its working for you that is what counts right? GridRepublic doesn't get the love and care in development it needs as it looks for more sustainable and proactive operation.

Most development time has gone into Progress Thru Processors and Charity Engine which are partners of GridRepublic... eventually the benefits of development in the Interface will trickle down to GridRepublic (the backend stuff already does) and make this a better competitor.

 Re: Installation fails @Windows 8  Help  Gridrepublic.org 08/21/12 01:55 am

Hi,

If the GridRepublic install is failing you can also use theBOINC downloadwhich is a newer version of the software which GridRepublic is based. Then you can attach to GridRepublic in the Tools menu as an account manager and enter the username and password used to register at GridRepublic.org

I'm pretty sure the BOINC install successfully installs on Windows 8. GridRepublic runs a few versions behind the main release depending on stability and features.

Let me know if the BOINC install works for you.

Re: Computer not showing in the list.(boinccmd)  Help  Gridrepublic.org 08/21/12 01:51 am

Is the server computer showing up in the computer list now? There can be a delay in time of joining and when things appear.

As for not using all cores you might want to look at the preferences once it appears or on the local machine. If you joined Progress Thru Processors the default cpu I believe is 60% and for GridRepublic I'm not sure if its limited or not, but the settings can be changed in the preferences.

Re: Rosetta not releasing memory.  Help  Gridrepublic.org 08/21/12 01:46 am

Hi Andrew,

This is happening very rarely and typically due to badwork units being sent out based on our previous experience. We do not run the projects ourselves, but provide access to them. The easiest thing you can do is reset the rosetta@home project and abort the current work units. If this reappears suspend rosetta@home from getting new work for a while.

 Re: LHC@home wrong URL  Help  Gridrepublic.org 07/12/12 05:11 pm
No, unfortunatly it is not as simiple as changing the url in the software. We need to be able to mediate communications with the new servers and generate a key for security so we can enable preference controls from the GridRepublic website. With the current framework this is not simple to update. The new setup would make this much easier to change and add projects....

 Re: LHC@home wrong URL  Help  Gridrepublic.org 07/11/12 09:10 pm

Hi Elijah Tevet,

We are still hard at work on the Drupal development for Charity Engine and working to port the GridRepublic content to the new framework shared by both sites.

Re: Any chance of LHC 2.0?  Help  Gridrepublic.org 07/11/12 09:07 pm

Hi Joseph,

We would love to do an update to the project list.... our plans are to do so after we finish the Drupal conversion. Our limited development resources are being consumed on other projects at this moment. We will add support for LHC 2.0 in time. Until then you can join it and connect to the account on GridRepublic when we do our refresh and update.

Thank you for the suggestion!

Re: request for help  Help  Gridrepublic.org 07/11/12 09:04 pm

Dear Dr Vipul Dave,

I hope your electricity situation becomes stable over time. GridRepublic does not write the code for the projects listed thus we cannot maked edits to the programs. Most projects include a checkpointing feature to save the progress of work over time. The time between checkpoints vary and are determined by the project. You might try other projects to see if they have shorter checkpoint times. I think rosetta@home and malariacontrol.net would have shorter periods between checkpoints.
