Hello,

I'm a newbie with this software but 30 years of PC/App support & Development but I've hit a problem & can't seem to find a solution.

I installed BOINC last night with the GridPublic GUI and I've been unable to get any of the Tasks to run during system idle times. The Tasks only seem to run aslong as their is Mouse or Keyboard activitity. Here is what I've tried thus far (summary)...

In the Web based Pref's page I set the config to allow processing all the time without restrictions on day or time. I also did the same via the Local Simple view interface as well as the Advanced Interface. I've tried resarting the computer and the BOINC applications. I've also used the Advanced View | Activity dropdown and checked the Run Always options. In addition, I've used the Adanced View | Advanced drop down and selected the Read Local Pref's file. It seems no matter what I do, the results are always the same, all the Tasks Status go to Suspend unless I keep doing stuff.

Any Ideas Greatly appreciated

DETAILED ACTIONS TAKEN

This is a more detailed list of what I've done so far. First I went the the Web Page for Pref's and  set up the CPU & GPU so that they run always (including when in use). In Simple View, I selected the Prefences page and tried both the Defaults as well as Customized settings. In the Customized settings, I had Do Work set to Anytime and Connect to Internet set to Anytime. I also had Do Work After Idle set to 0 (Run Always). That didn't help either. I then went into Advanced View | Advanced & clicked on Real Local Pref's file and again nothing changed.  In addition, I went into the Advanced View | Activity drop down and made sure the Run Always for CPU & Network were both selected and still nothing changed.

One last Item, when I was in Simple View and stopped my Mouse and Typing, the main dsiplay went from having the word Running to Another Process is Working (or something like that) after a minute of idle time. I had the Windows Task Manager open at the time and the only process running was the System Idle Process of WIndows. So I'm more confused then ever.

I look forward to hearing from someone.

Thanks,

Norm

Hi Norm,

The local preferences will take precident over web preferences.  If would be best to clear the local prefs and manage through GridRepublic's interface.

It is strange to hear that you cannot run durring idle since that is the default run state of GridRepublic's software.  How are you determing that the software does not run while idle?

Are you Mac or PC?  Either should run while idle by default.  It is while the computer in use that you should have to make sure the "while computer is in use" is checked in preferences (web or locla) for it to run.

The every day between hours of 00:00 and 00:00 or any other setting when the numberls match means GridRepublic should run while idle any time of the day.

If the computer is a laptop GR will not run unless the computer is plugged in or the "while computer is on batteries" is checked in preferences.

Setting the "run always" should ignore preferences and run no matter what... so if that is not working, that is strange.

I can help more once I know more about the above situations.
