Win 7 Installation Question/Problems

Hello,

I have a question, I installed GR yesterday, and the program files are in the Program Files (x86) folder in Win 7 (RC1, 64-bit), but the program does not show up in the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.  I also had to create a shortcut on my desktop to "GridRepublic.exe" in the Program Files (x86) folder to get the desktop app to work.

From all appearances on the website, my projects show up, and so does my computer, but when I go to the desktop app and try to click on a webpage button for some of the projects I get a blank browser screen.  I'd really like to be involved in this and let me computer help humanity while I'm not using it.  Your help would be appreciated.

I thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,

Dennis

Hello Dennis,

The Release Candidates for Windows 7 is not an officially supported OS as it is not a final release.  The behavior of the program may or may not behave as expected or desired.

Though you may try the Progress Thru Processors install obtained through our Facebook Application or try the latest BOINC download ( BOINC is the underlying program powering GridRepublic) to see if the install functions as desired.  (BOINC website)  There is no garantee that these will solve your problems.

We are glad for your support.  For other ways to help take a look at the Advocacy section of the community.

Dennis, we have an updated version of GR Desktop for Windows (6.8.20).  This should play more nicely w. newer versions of Windows.  But it is at present in beta testing.  If you're interested in trying it, you can download here.  Pls reply back w. any feedback.

Gentlemen,

I almost forgot to ask one question...  How do I delete the current version of GridRepublic off my computer, especially when it doesn't show up in the Control Panel list of programs to remove/modify?  I don't have a menu item in my programs list either.  Should I just delete the folder the Programs (x86) file?

I hate to bother you again, but need some support.

Thank you,

 Dennis

i wonder: does "boinc" show up in your add/remove control panel?  if so: remove that.

and also: look for a folder named "BOINC Data" and delete it.  and look for a file "boinc manager preferences" and delete that.

Hey there Matt,

I just double checked "Uninstall a Program" in the Control Panel under Programs, and no I don't see BOINC either.  I don't know how I messed this up so much.  Been using Windows ever since MS-DOS became obsolete, but gimme a chance and I'm sure I can do damage.

I'll go ahead and delete the folders you suggested and then try the reinstall suggestions you guys gave me earlier.

Again, thanks so much for your time and support.

Sincerely,

Dennis

do a quick search for files with the name "boinc": let me know if you find anything besides the above, and what folders they are in.

Matt,

It appears everything that contains the search word "BOINC" in the C:\Program Files (x86)/BOINC folder.

Hope this helps.

Thanks again!,
