GridRepublic Desktop and BOINC client software

The GridRepublic Desktop software is built from the same code as the BOINC desktop software. It is slightly customized, (1) to simplify installation and integration with GridRepublic's management features, and (2) to improve the graphical appearance of the software.

Thus it is of course possible to use generic BOINC desktop software with GridRepublic: upon creation of an account the system will detect preexisting BOINC accounts and give appropriate instructions to "attach" generic BOINC clients to GridRepublic. Using BOINC client software with GridRepublic

  1. GridRepublic requires BOINC version 5.4.11 or better
  2. Create an account at GridRepublic if you haven't already done so.
    1. Be sure your GridRepublic account has the same email address as all your BOINC project accounts.
    2. If you have a World Community Grid account, be sure your GridRepublic account uses the same name.
    3. Note: The registration process will detect that you are an existing BOINC user, and will automatically show you the below instructions, so you may want to leave off reading here and simply go register.
  3. In order for your BOINC application(s) to be managed by GridRepublic, they must be "attached" to our system:
    1. Open the BOINC application you wish to attach.
    2. If you are using BOINC version 5.8 or later, click the "Advanced View" button in the lower right corner of the window. (Users of earlier BOINC versions do not have this button and should skip to the next step)
    3. In the application menu bar, select "Tools" and then select "Account manager". This will launch an "Attach" wizard
    4. When asked for "Account Manager URL", enter www.gridrepublic.org. When asked for "User Information", provide the email address and password you used to register here at GridRepublic.
    5. Upon completion of the Wizard, your computer will be "attached" to GridRepublic and you will be able to manage it from our website.
    6. You'll need to use this "Attach to Account Manager" function on all your computers; after doing so you'll be able to manage all of them from the single GridRepublic web interface.
