Installer for Mac, Intel only?

Hi all, Ive been using Grid Republic on my Windows laptop for sometime now, and its been working fine. Ive also got an old PPC Mac sitting around and I thought it could benifit from having something to do. So I downloaded the installer from the webiste for Apple computers, however the icon has a no-go stamp over it, and says that the installer cannot run, because it is not supported on my architecture.  Over on the download page it says the file is a universal file for use on both PPC and Intel macs, so im not sure what the problem is.  Ive got a PowerMac G5 2.0 Ghz with 10.5.8 Leopard. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm...  I'm running on a PPC Mac; let me take a look and see if I can reproduce your issue...

Hi Chris.  Seems you're right -- at some point the installer lost PPC compatibility, thought the app is PPC compatible.  Apologies.

One solution: the Progress Thru Processors (PTP) installer still works on older Macs -- do you have a Facebook account?  Might you want to sign up there?  (During the simple registration process, you can link your new PTP app to your existing GR account; it just integrates everything into Facebook, which is kind of nice.)  Just go to apps.facebook.com/processors, then click the "join" button.

If you don't have a Facebook account, or don't want to add PTP to such account, you can use an older version of BOINC for Mac, available here.

Hi Matt

I downloaded and installed that BOINC manager with no problems. It's synced with Grid Republic, picked up my projects and seems to be running smoothly. Thanks for the help!  The Grid Republic website doesnt show the Mac on my list of active computers but thats ok.

Try this --

In your desktop software, click the "advanced view" button in lower right.  then under the "tools" menu there might be an option that says "attach to account manager".  if so, pick that, enter www.gridrepublic.org and when asked the email + pw you use to login here...

Let me know if that works...

Yes, I have selected Grid Republic as an account manager, and signed in with my email address and password, but it still doesnt register the machine on the website. Strange...

Sorry if this is a dumb question -- but are you sure it's the same email address (used at the original GR account and when attaching the new computer)?

In any case, one thing to check: in the desktop softwares of an old machine & the new one, under "advanced view" and in the "projects" tab -- are the listed account names the same?

This is strange... you don't see the computer listed on:

Would you check a project website for which the computer has sent and recieved work and let us know?

Aha! Now it is on the list. Im not sure what changed... But the website is now tracking its progress just like it does my Windows computer. Maybe it just needed a few days to communicate with it enough. Thanks for all the help with this guys!
